Mama’s House is a place for women who are pregnant and in a crisis. At Mama’s House they help women like me get off the streets and help us learn to make better decisions, whether we are planning to keep our babies or making the hard decision of adoption.
While here, I have been learning lots of new things like computer skills in my writing workshop where I am working on my autobiography with this amazing lady.
I am learning how to be a better parent through the Earn While You Learn program, where we learn parenting skills and earn points to buy items from our in-house boutique.
Here are some examples that were very helpful to me: Learning different techniques of breastfeeding positions and massaging the breast to help the milk come down. How important it is to keep your baby on a feeding schedule as well as a sleeping schedule. Also that it’s not safe to co-sleep with an infant because it will make it more difficult when it comes time to put them in their own bed.
Some of the life skills I’m learning here are: scheduling my chores such as cooking, cleaning, and a wake up time to start my morning routines for the week. They’ve even provided me with a mentor named Kathura that prays with me and encourages me to stay focused on God and my program. She has been the best part of my experience at Mama’s House. I am very thankful that Mama’s House has opened its doors to me, to provide everything that my baby and I need to have a better way of life.
Mama’s House will be doing even more to help me to get ready to be on my own by helping me with qualifying for section 8, employment preparation, applying for scholarships to further my education and most importantly helping me to build a deeper relationship with my heavenly Father, the Holy Spirit and the Son Jesus Christ.
I am very happy that I found Mama’s House and that I was able to get off the streets. I am very grateful that Mama’s House is providing me with a lot of knowledge and guidance to help me as well as my children. I really don’t know what would have happened if I had never walked into the doors of Mama’s House. It has given me a new way of life that I’ve been seeking. I want to give thanks to God for guiding my stepmom and I to go online and getting the hotline number to Mama’s House. This has given me a chance to have a better future for myself and my family, to be a better person, and finally to be able to take care of myself and my children the way a mother should.
