My Dearest Child,
I am not sure if you will ever read this letter, but I’m writing it so that you will know the truth. First, know how happy and overjoyed I am that you are here. I lay in bed humming my favorite lullaby, hoping you can feel the love I am sending you, because no matter what happens I will always love you. I just want what’s best for you. You will always have a special place in my heart.
There is darkness in my life that I can’t explain, that you would not understand. However, you deserve the best, an opportunity for a future and life that is better than I can provide. I want to you go further than I ever did. Because I love you I have to make the hardest decision of my life as a mother. I am torn to tell you that I will be your mother always, but I will not be your mom.
I am excited to see where you go in life and I will be with you every step of the way. You have a bright future ahead of you, fight for it! I love you, never forget that.
Your Mother
Legacy of an Adopted Child
Once there were two women, who never knew each other,
One you do not remember, the other you call mother.
Two different lives, shaped to make yours one,
One became your guiding star, the other became your sun.
One gave you life, the second taught you to live in it.
One gave you a need for love, the second was there to give it.
One gave you a nationality, the other gave you a name.
One gave you a seed of talent, the other gave you an aim.
One gave you emotions, the other calmed your fears.
One saw your first sweet smile, the other dried your tears.
One gave you up it was all she could do, the second prayed for a child and God led her straight to you.
Now you ask me through your tears the age old question of the years …
Heredity or environment, which are you the product of?
Neither my darling, neither, just two different kinds of love.
